There are not enough words to describe how much we love this place. Our boys are 2 and 4 and had the time of their lives without even leaving the farm. Sylvan and Sadie might be the kindest people I’ve ever met. They couldn’t have been more hospitable and genuinely nice. Lydia was one of the highlights of our entire trip. Our boys loved her and followed her absolutely everywhere. She was so patient with them and taught them so much. The land and home were just perfect. The home was very clean and there was more than enough room. 10/10 recommend and we will 100% be coming back.
Thank you for your review. I'm glad your family had such a wonderful experience!
This review is way overdue! We stayed at Killdeer for a few days of our daughters 4th birthday. Her being born in New Jersey, she hadn't been on a farm. She ABSOLUTELY loved it! From the cows and horses, to most importantly(to her) all the dogs and puppies. Turbo scratched her arm, and she has a scar, but she is happy he did, because it is a story she still tells 3 months later.
It was great being on a farm again, after living in New Jersey for 5 years and living and working on a dairy farm for 6 1/2 years before then, it shows how much you miss farm life, but with the Amish lifestyle thrown in, it really makes you enjoy the simpler things, and the Amish ingenuity. I saw the ingenuity first hand when Sylvan had to rig up the batteries in order to do the morning milking. Calm and cool he did what he needed to do, and got the milking done.
Sadie was always hard at work, but when she wasn't working hard, she was waving hard at my wife while going down the road in the buggy. Turns out it wasn't my wife! Hahahaha! Made for a good laugh!
The house is absolutely beautiful and the Esh family make you feel like part of the family. The chats we had with them when they had time, and the root beer floats were a great addition to one of those chats.
It is amazing to me looking back at the stay and seeing the Amish way and values, that the Amish work more, and sometimes harder than most English, but they seem to have a better attitude about it than most of us. I feel there is more we can learn FROM them, than just ABOUT their ways of living.
Thank you Sylvan, Sadie, Abram, and even Lydia(who was away helping a relative, but we heard many great things about)! Looking forward to our next stay!
Thank you for this enthousiastic review of your stay at the Killdeer Farm Guesthouse!
My 10 year old daughter and I stayed at Killdeer Farm Guesthouse and LOVED every minute of it!!! The Esh family went above and beyond any expectations I could have ever imagined. From time spent in the barn during milking to late night chats, who could have asked for a better stay. The house was Immaculate with plenty of needed supplies. We will be back very soon! Thank you Sadie, Sylvan, Abram and Lydia for the wonderful stay.
Oh and thank Lydia for showing us how to roll my daughter’s hair. It meant a lot to her.
We're glad you had such a memorable stay!
My wife and I have stayed a number of times at the Killdeer Farm Guesthouse. Each and every time we have been welcomed like it was our home. The hospitality by this wonderful family is top notch as they go above and beyond to make us comfortable and have an experience you will never forget. There is no better place to stay in Lancaster. The house is clean, comfortable and decorated great. If you want a true authentic Amish experience look no where else except Killdeer Farm Guesthouse.
Thank you, we're glad you enjoy your visits here!
My wife and I had a nice, relaxing long weekend. Sylvan, Sadie, and Abram are very gracious hosts. The guesthouse was large, clean and very comfortable. People come from all over the world to visit with the Amish in Lancaster. There is something substantial and special here. I would invite you to stay at Killdeer to experience this..
Thank you Craig, we're glad you enjoyed your stay!
Our stay at Killdeer was wonderful. Sylvan and Sadie are beautiful people. Was very impressed in how well they take care of their animals and their guests. Enjoyed visiting with the family. The accommodations where excellent and very clean. We are already planning our next visit to Killdeer farm.
Our family had such a lovely time at the Esh family's farm! Sylvan, Sadie and their children were very friendly, welcoming, hospitable, and we loved spending time chatting with them. Our small children loved every minute of their time on the farm and didn't want to leave to visit anywhere else! It was such a joy to talk with Sylvan about milking the cows, farm equipment, and Amish life. It was wonderful chatting with Sadie about motherhood and preparing for big weddings! Lydia was also very sweet when she brought a puppy for our young kids to pet and when she brought them on a quick buggy ride around the barn! We didn't want to leave! We hope to return soon to visit the Esh family again and stay in their wonderful guesthouse! We cannot recommend the Killdeer Farm Guesthouse more highly!
Thank you for your review. I'm glad your Amish Farm Stay with the Esh family was so memorable!
We loved this place! Did not want to leave! Very nice family, hard workers. The house, the grounds, everything was so clean and manicured. Loved talking to Sadie and Sylvan. Such nice people. Experiencing farm life was so interesting. Their animals are all so well taken care of......and spoiled! Everything about the stay was great! The house has everything you could possibly need and so comfortable We will definitely be going back when they get the goats!
We're glad you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for your review!
We were met in a driving rainstorm by Lydia and Sadie. Sadie then welcomed us and showed us the guest house. She spent over an hour with us just talking to us and answering questions. She really made us feel welcome. We had an extended family of 10 and they allowed us to stay even though supposed to be 8. Sadie offered us extra bedding but we had extra cots already. The guest house was very clean and nice but the highlights were spending time with their family and learning about their way of life. Some of the activities we got to enjoy were a tour of the farm by Sadie, a pony ride in a cart by Sylvan's mother, a croquet game with Lydia and her friends(then another one the next morning after the chores were done), a tour of the one room schoolhouse with Lydia, a milking lesson with Sylvan and Lydia at 6:15am(they let us sleep in an extra 45 min), enjoyed singing from their youth group, carriage ride. to market to take three calves to sell. On top of all this my brother's van would not start when we were supposed to go home and Sylvan recommended an Amish friend that fixed it that same day for less than it would have cost back home. While we were waiting past the check out time Sylvan, Sadie, and Lydia sat and talked with us and Sadie showed us her beautiful quilt she was working on! The family is amazing and on the way home the kids were wanting to order a croquet set and planning to come back when Sight and Sound starts a new show. Like Esther my family and I believe God put us with Sylvan and his family for such a time as this! To see a family so dedicated to God, family, and friends was a great lesson to us all.
Thank you for your thoughtful review!
Our stay at Killdeer Farm Guesthouse was amazing! It was better than I could have hoped for. Sylvan and Sadie and their precious children were very welcoming and spent a lot of time visiting with us. They answered all our questions and showed us around the farm. Our accommodations were beautiful and very clean. I can’t wait to return!
